Aptina supply 1.3-megapixel CIS for new Xbox 360

According to the resource DigiTimes, Taiwan Company, Aptina won exclusive rights in production to 1.3-megapixel CMOS image sensors (CIS) for Microsoft Xbox 360 console, designed for use in Microsoft’s Project Natal technology. The publication reports that Aptina will begin shipping in the second half of 2010.
Such information is generally consistent with prior voice of the timing of Microsoft Project Natal release, which plans to implement the commercialization of this technology at the earliest in 2010. In addition, according to DigiTimes, the new system for tracking the movements will come as part of the new Xbox game consoles, though Microsoft has repeatedly stated that the Project Natal will be the so-called companion device, compatible with all Xbox consoles.
Remember, Project Natal was first presented in E3 June 2009 and includes a RGB camera, a depth sensor, a microphone and a special processor, managing all the necessary applications. Moreover, recently the former head of Microsoft Bill Gates suggested that such technology can be used in the home computer and office systems.
