DVDirect VDR-MC6 DVD recorder, direct from cameras and camcorder

Sony Corp. announced a new generation of external DVD recorder, DVDirect. The new model is called DVDirect VDR-MC6 DVD recorder, and allows you to record photos and video (including HD video) to optical media directly from digital cameras and camcorder without connecting to a computer. Compared with the existing model of DVDirect VDR-MC5, a new external DVD recorder is about 60% smaller. At the same time, it is equipped with a color 2.7-inch color LCD screen on which users can preview the photos and video recording. This screen can display up to 6 images at the same time.
When connecting to a DVDirect VRD-MC6 external DVD recorder to Sony Handycam with a HDD or Memory Stick allows user to transfer videos to DVD video into a “native” HD solving quality 1080i and AVCHD format. In addition, the external drive interface is equipped with Digital Video (i.LINK / FireWire), as well as composite and USB port that can be used with other photo devices and video cameras.
Photos stored on a disk DVD, can be displayed in a slideshow. In doing so, users have the opportunity to add to the disk with mp3 audio files to be played as background music accompanying this slide show. It is also worth noting that the obtained photos and video can be played on most conventional DVD players.
DVDirect VRD-MC6 able to write DVD+R double layer discs with capacity up to 8.5 GB, and supports the recording of content from Memory Stick, SDHC, xD, or with the USB drive. In addition, the record supports Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound, as well as preserving the original ratio 4:3 or 16:9. The DVDirect VDR-MC6 DVD recorder is release in September and it will cost about $229.

It needs to be stressed in capital print that this recorder only works with Sony’s Handicam. I bought a Canon video camera because I needed the external mic feature that Sony doesn’t offer and the recorder was not compatible with the memory stick although it had a slot for it.
