Garmin, a well-known manufacturer of navigation equipment, has announced a compact GPS navigator, Edge 500, aimed at cycling enthusiasts. Garmin Edge 500 is attached to the steering wheel two-wheeled, equipped with a small display with a resolution of 128×160 pixels. It shows detailed information about the speed of the cyclist, calories burned, distance flown, time and other useful data.
The Garmin Edge 500 is equipped with a barometric altimeter (determines the height above sea level) and does not require calibration of high sensitivity GPS-receiver. Garmin Edge 500 can connects wirelessly a variety of external sensors (third-party power meters, for example, speed or cadence), is compatible with ANT+.
It can also measure the temperature of the surrounding air, automatically change the time zone and audible signal to warn the user (alerts riders) if the bike is moving, and the timer is turned off.
The Edge 500 battery has provides up to 18 hours of continuous operation. It also has featuring a USB interface for data transfer and easy charging. Garmin Edge 500 has retail priced at $249.99. Its bundled with a Garmin speed/cadence sensor device and a heart rate monitor has costs $349.99.
