GIGABYTE developed motherboard with SATA III (6 Gbit/s)
Most recently, we reported on the official release of interface specifications for the new SATA III, provides the data exchange rate up to 6 Gbit/s (750 MB/s) between the device, connected the HDD and SSD drives. Taiwanese company, Gigabyte has been one of the first whose motherboards have the support of the high-speed port.
While SATA III has interface equipped with three models of GIGABYTE motherboards; GA-EP55-UD5, GA-EP55-UD4P, as well as an updated version of GA-EX58A Extreme. As it is clear from the title, the first two motherboards are based on Intel P55 chipset, while the third motherboard is on the basis of a set of Intel X58 system logic. To implement the new interface they use Marvell chip, supporting four SATA-III ports and six SATA-II ports, as well as RAID modes 0 and 1, and the function of Multiplier Port. Perhaps the plans are Gigabyte and other boards to support new high-speed connections, but at the moment there is no information about them.
Although currently on the market do not have hard drives or SSD with an SATA-III, their occurrence is expected in the near future. According to existing information, such major players as the Seagate is already closely involved in the development of the hard drive with support for new high-speed standard.
New Motherboards from GIGABYTE support SATA-III will be showcased at Computex 2009, but their release is expected shortly.
