Google Chrome netbook could come before end of year

July 11th, 2009 Filed under Software

When Google Inc. announced the development of a new operating system, Chrome, it designed specifically for use in netbook. Google Chrome representatives said that the source code will be available until the end of the year. At the same time, the first computers, working on the new Chrome OS, in the opinion of Google, should appear on sale in the second half of 2010.

However, when developing an operating system with open source there is no need to wait for anyone’s permission to use it. This is confirmed by the heads of Google. According to Reuters, Google CEO Eric Schmidt said that netbook on the Chrome platform could be announced before the end of year.

This does not mean that such computers will be on sale as early as this year. But now, it knows that many of the leading producers of notebook PCs, including Acer, ASUS, HP, and Lenovo joined the list of hardware “partners for the project. It remains to see what brands are the first to produce products that use the operating system of Google Chrome.
