HDMI 1.4 Standard: HDMI Ethernet Channel (HEC) and Audio Return Channel (ARC)
HDMI Licensing group unveiled further details of a new HDMI 1.4 standard. In the specification contains information about the features of the new data transfer standard, including technology called HDMI Ethernet Channel (HEC). This function is able to provide Ethernet-connected at speeds of up to 100 Mbps between the main device and the equipment connected to it, of course, subject to support this standard. It allows two devices to work together with the information without using a separate cable, capable of uniting living near each other device in the network. In addition, this technology will provide an opportunity to simultaneously view the content (for example, videos) from devices in different rooms.
The new HDMI 1.4 standard also implemented reverse audio channels technology, known as the Audio Return Channel (ARC). With its help its can send compressed surround sound through any intermediate device, for example, home theater receiver, without using a separate optical audio cable. The new standard also supports future video, including allowing up to 4K (4096 x 2160), 3D image and color spaces, implemented in digital cameras. In addition, recently submitted to micro HDMI connector will be part of the HDMI 1.4 standard and it will pass FullHD video with miniature devices, including portable media players and compact cameras.
The first samples of chipsets with support for HDMI 1.4 standard will be before the end of May, and finished products, equipped with new technology, should be set up in 2010.
