Hitachi Deskstar 7K2000 2TB HDD, world’s first
Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi GST) has today announced shipping of new hard drive, Deskstar 7K2000, designed for desktop computers, gaming systems, workstations and desktop RAID arrays.
According to the manufacture, this HDD is world’s first on the 2TB hard drive market with a spindle rotation speed of 7200 RPM. The current of rotation per minute that already available in the sales of hard disks of the same amount is a frequency of 5,400 rpm or 5,900 rpm.
Hitachi Deskstar 7K2000 HDD is made in the 3.5-inch form; connection to the computer interface is through the Serial ATA II (SATA II). Average search time for reading the data just 8.2 ms, the claimed power consumption in idle mode is 4.4 Watts. The size of the Hitachi Deskstar 7K2000 HDD is 146x102x26 mm and weight is about 740g.
In the Deskstar 7K2000 HDD implemented several proprietary technologies designed to improve the technical and operational characteristics of the hard drive. For example, Hitachi Voltage Efficiency Regulator (HiVERT) regulates the power options in such a way as to achieve a maximum reduction of energy consumption.
The Hitachi HDD is expected to suitable application not only in desktop PCs, but also in the consumer electronics and external hard drives, etc. Information on start of sales is not available yet.
