Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi GST) has expanded its hard drive lineup with the Hitachi Travelstar Z5K500 that designed for portable devices and mobile markets.

The new Hitachi Travelstar Z5K500 HDD is the first 2.5-inch 7mm thick hard drive, which has up to 500GB of storage capacity. The drive is using Advanced Format technology, which increase of the sector size from 512 to 4,096 bytes. It is 7-10 percent increase usable capacity compared to conventional hard drives.

Hitachi Travelstar Z5K500 hard drive can operate at 5400 rpm, 8MB cache memory, 1.8W power consumption in use, 0.55W in idle mode, and a sound output of 2.1 dbA during seek.

The Hitachi Travelstar Z5K500 HDD is suitable be applied in thin and light notebooks, netbooks, blade servers, consumer electronics devices, external drives, and so on. Optionally, Hitachi Travelstar Z5K500 is available with bulk data encryption.

In addition, Hitachi Travelstar Z5K500 HDD is also comes with 320GB and 250GB of capacity.
