Hitachi Ultrastar C10K300: Power-Efficient and High-Speed HDD
On the issue of new stores the Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi GST) announced. New items are made in standard size of 2.5 inches. New hard drive make 10 thousand revolutions per minute (10k RPM). Products that have received designation Ultrastar C10K300, available in two versions of the size: 147GB and 300GB. Both versions are equipped with dual interface Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) with a throughput of 6 Gbps.
As compare with previous model with a new generation surpasses is SAS 3 Gbp/s. The new version of the interface also provides increased distance, which can transmit signals through a cable. This allows you to link more complex arrays of disks and storage of large volume.
The main features of the new HDD manufacturer consider the optimization of the criteria of size, power and speed. According to Hitachi GST, the new hard drive took 70% less volume and consumes 65% less energy compared with the 3.5 inch HDD of the same class.
