JEDEC updates MMC standard

April 17th, 2009 | Filed under Miscellaneous 0 Comments

JEDEC, Organization of Solid State Technology Association published a standard of JESD84-A44 MMC Version 4.4, defines the specification of memory MMC. The new version of the standard includes a number of improvements, for example, doubling the rate of performance memory interface, a flexible sector management and improved data protection options. For example, the maximum data transfer speed in version 4.4 of a rise from 52 MB/s to 104 MB/s. At the same time retains full backward compatibility with previous generation devices.

Recall that MMC is a built-volatile memory system, which includes both the actual flash memory and memory controller. It simplifies the interface and releases the main processor of low-level management of flash memory. The small size of chips and low power consumption makes the MMC-effective solution for use, for example, in mobile devices. Since its publication in late 2006, the MMC standard was used in a broad range of consumer electronics, navigation systems and so on.
