LG Electronics, as well as several other manufacturers, has prepared its unit for the OPhone project from China Mobile. This initiative has involving more than 20 companies, including Lenovo, Dell, LG, Dopod and Hisense. LG GW880 is a phone with a 3.5-inch touch screen with resolution 480×800 pixels. It is running an OMS (or OPhone) operating system, based on Android. This mobile platform is optimized for the TD-SCDMA Chinese networks and related services, such as Sony Ericsson Mobile Market.
LG GW880 works over TD-SCDMA and GSM/EDGE, including the characteristics of a smartphone; 5 megapixel camera, GPS, Bluetooth, 512 MB ROM and 256 MB of RAM. In addition, the device supports the Chinese digital TV CMMB and MBBMS. LG GW880 will be sold only in China, it is not clear whether the company decides to issue its counterpart based on Android to other markets.
