Microsoft redefines “netbook” name

Representatives from Microsoft at Computex expressed the desire to achieve in the future of computer manufacturers that they did not use the term “netbook” to describe their products. Application Platform and Development marketing general manager Steven Guggenheimer said in an interview to the press that the corporation plans to use for these devices called “low cost small notebook PCs“. It is argued that the original designation netbook as devices designed primarily for work on the Internet, it has become obsolete, and now, these mobile computers acquired many additional features and functions.

However, despite the fact that the Microsoft representatives referred to as a new symbol for netbook a simple change of names, the experts had a different view on this matter. They believe that by doing so, Software giant wants to force manufacturers to install netbook its products more expensive version of Windows 7. Previously, vendors have been told about the possibility of installing the cheapest Windows 7 Starter Edition only on computers with certain limitations (10 inch diagonal screen and less than 1 GB of RAM, hard drive with a maximum capacity of 250 GB and unknown processor with a frequency of up to 2 GHz). Thus, Microsoft may require that mobile computers are not well suited for these requirements, do not set Windows 7 Starter Edition, and much more expensive Windows 7 Home Premium.

Representatives of Microsoft have refused to confirm or deny the existence of such plans. Recall Corporation has recently lifted the restriction in Windows 7 Starter Edition, which users could not run more than three applications simultaneously. This is done in order to increase competitiveness in the market netbook Windows 7 and migration of users to remove the Linux system.
