Nokia Internet Modem RD-3, test first LTE-based 4G modem
Nokia announced the creation of its first modem designed to work in 4G cell data standard, LTE (Long Term Evolution) format.
Photos of new products, dubbed Internet Modem RD-3 has not yet provided. However, in the sale of the device, most likely, it does not appear: the modem will be offered for a test operator, who is currently busy building LTE-networks.
It is known that Internet Modem RD-3 also supports networks GSM/GPRS/EDGE and UMTS/HSPA. Nokia Internet Modem RD-3 will be peaks at 100Mbps, but also support 3G data over HSPA and 2G over EDGE, it will makes users support of more established networks.
Recall that in April, Nokia through its vice president Anssi Vanjoki announced that he sees no future for the main competitor LTE, WiMAX. In this connection, the manufacturer is going to concentrate on producing devices with support for LTE. Nokia has stopped selling Internet Tablet, N810 WiMAX Edition in February 2009. Probably about the same time the company is disappointed with WiMAX.
The first commercial 4G network based on LTE technology will start Verizon Wireless US operator in the middle of 2010. But T-Mobile, AT&T, and others have planned to follow start from 2011.
