OCZ “Colossus” 1 TB SSD prototype (Computex 2009)

This year, OCZ introduced a lot of Solid-state drive (SSD) at Computex from low-cost to high-quality models and expensive devices. Such attention is understandable, it is projected to soon be a very significant part of the market of devices for the accumulation and storage of information will make it products based on NAND-memory.

Confirming interest in this market segment, Taiwanese forum has demonstrated a prototype of OCZ SSD with 1 TB giant storage containers. This device is implemented in the 3.5-inch form factor and created two flash drives based on MLC memory and working in the mode of RAID 0 array through RAID controller from JMicron.

This SSD with the sonorous name of Colossus is equipped with a SATA II interface and, according to these characteristics, showing a good performance, a maximum speed of read and write data is up to 265 MB/s (read) and up to 265 MB/s (write), and the seek time does not exceed 2 ms. And, besides 1TB version is presented and the model Colossus half-capacity is 500 GB. It was expected that the sale of Colossus SSD will begin in the coming months.
