OLPC adopts VIA processors, not AMD

Charity Initiative OLPC (One Laptop Per Child), which supplies mini computer XO-1 laptops to children in developing countries, decided to change the hardware platform. Previously, the company employed energy-efficient processor production AMD, but now they has decided to slightly improve the system for the same price and replaced by a partner in favor of Taiwan, VIA. Now the XO-1 the second series will use a more reliable and efficient processor VIA C7-M, which can change its frequency from 400 MHz to 1 GHz, depending on the required speed of computation.
At the same time, the maximum load processor consumes 5 W and at a minimum only 1.5 Watts. A motherboard is also used in the decision VIA, VX855 Chipset, which it is even able to decode video and audio high definition. The amount of RAM is DDR2 will be 1GB, and the size of flash drive 4GB, with the possibility of increasing up to 8GB.
