PCI Express 3.0 specification in 2011
PCI-SIG (Special Interest Group) Organization plans to complete work on the final specification of the PCI Express third generation by June next year.
The PCI Express version 2.0 (PCIe 2.0) current specifications provides for data transmission at speeds of up to 5 GHz rate (5 GT/s, Giga Transfers per second). Sixteen lines of PCI Express that provides bandwidth up to 16 Gb/s.
The maximum flow rate for a PCI Express 3.0 standard will reach 8 GHz rate (8 GT/s). From double speed compared to PCI Express 2.0 developers were forced to give in order to improve energy efficiency.
For the PCI Express version 3.0 interface is planned to ensure full backward compatibility with existing standards. In addition, the new specification will include further optimization of signal transduction and control the speed of flow.
Initially, the final version of PCI Express 3.0 Specification to be published in the current year, however, complete work on it in time it was not possible. As a new publication date is called the middle of next year. In doing so, expect the first devices to PCI Express 3.0 support on the market should be no earlier than 2011.
Add that to the current quarter, the PCI-SIG organization will release version 0.7 specifications of PCI Express 3.0.
