Pharos launches two new GPS smartphones
Nov 16, 2008 GPS, Mobile Phones
Although it is primarily a maker of GPS devices, Pharos has a line of smartphones for some time. We have reviewed the GPS Phone 600 last year and found that it was a bit awkward compromise between Windows Mobile Pocket PC and GPS, but probably has its strengths. This year, the models are the Traveler 117 and 127. Both models are unlocked GSM / EDGE / HSDPA phones that run on the T-Mobile EDGE network or AT & T 3G HSDPA network. This is Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional with 400 MHz processor, which consider the minimum for Windows Mobile well. They have 2-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and weighing 4.8 ounces.
The main difference between the two groups is that the traveler 117 a 2.8″ 640 x 480 touch screen and no keyboard, and the Traveler 127 is 2.5″, 320 x 240 screen and a keyboard. The Traveler 127 in fact a bit like a BlackBerry 8800, BlackBerry if you run Windows Mobile.
The real benefit of these phones is, of course, Pharos’ navigation software that comes with each device. Pharos Smart Navigator product has new features such as the ability of families to keep the location of each other on a map or through the Net - good for caravans.
The Traveler 117 and 127 will be available on December 1 on Amazon.com and Newegg.com, for $529.95.
