Qualcomm Snapdragon-powered Smartbooks: future from smartphone / netbook?
Qualcomm is preparing to appear in the market of new devices in a small form factor, known as smartbooks. These devices will be built on a powerful mobile platform in Snapdragon, that will give them new opportunities as compared to existing portable computers, MID and UMPC. Reported that some Snapdragon partners are already engaged in the development smartbook, and their first samples may have a next fall.
Outwardly smartbook will resemble a Sony VAIO P mini-notebook and it will have some elements are used in smartphones and netbook. Combined with the hardware of 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, smartbook can handle HD video and even work with 3D graphics, by the way, the screens they touchscreen with a diagonal of 10 to 12 inches, and reaches a screen resolutions as high as WXGA level (1280 x 768 pixels).
In addition, these devices will get rich communication capabilities that include work in 3G networks and Wi-Fi, Bluetooth connections, as well as embedded GPS module. Due to economical smartbook chipsets will be able to work on one battery charge of 8 to 10 hours. And as a smartbook software platform are likely to use Linux distribution with a user interface, familiar to us by the so-called “instantaneous operating systems.”
