Ricoh develops electronic paper with more vivid colors

Ricoh announced the company working to develop an “electronic paper” (e-paper) a new type. Recall that this term means the display of information technology, forming an image of reflected light, and showing it indefinitely, while consuming no electricity and no tired eyes. Such technology has already found application, for example, in electronic books.

Ricoh is developing a new technology of “electronic paper” that allows the colors in the display brighter one and a half times. Unlike the existing analogs, which uses layers of red, blue and green lights, separated by glass plates, in the new version of “electronic paper” is used so-called multilevel electronic structure. This structure is when applying it to an electrical signal capable of delivering a combination of cyan, magenta and yellow (color CMYK).

In addition, Ricoh argue that the developed technology allows preserving vibrant colors even when the power supply. Instead of glass to separate layers in the new technology uses a transparent insulating material, thus increasing the brightness and color saturation of images. Reportedly, Ricoh intends to present the first images of new commercial “electronic paper” over the next five years.
