Rockchip RK2808 chipset for Android phones

The Chinese company, Rockchip, producing chips for portable media, is preparing to introduce a new low-cost chipset, RK2808. It has featuring support for the mobile operating system, Android. Rockchip Experts believe that a free software platform is very suitable for the vast Chinese market and hoped that their new development will significantly reduce the cost of Android-phones and make them more accessible.

In addition to supporting the Android operating system, a new RK2808 chipset has enhanced multimedia capabilities, beyond those that exist in today’s Android-phones. It is not clear how popular will this chipset to manufacturers of mobile devices. However, it is already clear that in the second half of this year, the market should see a lot of smartphones on the Android platform. And if among them will be several Chinese models at a price of $100 to $200 free of binding to a cellular operator, it will only benefit the operating system.
