At the IFA Consumer Electronics Show 2009, which recently took place in Berlin, Kyu Uhm, Head of Worldwide Sales and Marketing for Samsung’s Computing Division stated that the first laptops with OLED display to be commercialized within a year. According to him, Samsung is the largest manufacturer of OLED screens, and now is working to adapt them for notebooks. Most likely, portable/notebook computers with displays will come in the third quarter of next year.
According to analysts, Gartner, OLED displays will be standard feature for laptops in the next five years. OLED has many advantages over LCD, they are brighter and contrast, have better color reproduction and lower power consumption. However, while the production of such screens is quite expensive, and they are used mainly in small devices are media players, mobile phones and so on.
