I have developed very painful tendonitis in my thumb, as well as CTS. Recently I used a laptop with trackpad for two weeks and the pain virtually disappeared. I realized it was because I wasn't gripping a mouse, and just using my forefinger to move the cursor. Most of my apps don't have keyboard commands for moving the cursor.
