Sony Memory Stick XC with up to 2TB
Sony released the final specifications of the new format of high-capacity memory cards. The first information on the development of a new format, now known as the Memory Stick XC, appeared in January at CES 2009. This format uses a new exFAT file system, which provides memory card with up to 2TB.
Sony Memory Stick XC specifications has provide for the establishment of at least four different types of memory cards, including;
* Memory Stick XC Duo
* Memory Stick XC-HG Duo
* Memory Stick XC Micro (M2 XC)
* Memory Stick XC-HG Micro (M2 XC-HG)
Memory Stick XC Duo and XC-HG Duo will have a size 20x31x1.6 mm and the dimensions of Memory Stick XC Micro and XC-HG Micro will be 15×12.5×1.2 mm. All of these types of memory cards will support the content protection technology, MagicGate. In doing so, the maximum and minimum data transfer rate should reach 480Mbps (60MB per second) and 40 Mbps in high-speed Memory Stick XC-HG Duo and XC-HG Micro, and the remaining two types of figures could make up 160Mbps and 15Mbps, respectively.
The new memory card, Memory Stick XC uses the same core slot, and that the existing solutions of Memory Stick. It was expected that Sony will use a new standard of memory cards for digital photo and video cameras and other portable devices. There is not report the appearance and timing of Memory Stick XC and their supporting devices.
