Sony Stops on New Display Generation, FED

Last autumn, the Sony has demonstrated a working model of the FED called, it will combine the advantages of technology, CRT and LCD. Thin Monitor was able to form an image at a frequency of 240 Hz, has excellent contrast rate of 20000:1, and had little effect on the image of inertia (at the level of CRT displays). Moreover, the production of displays and televisions to the new technology was to begin this year. Unfortunately, plans do not come true.

That is what happens when the subsidiary of Sony that was responsible for FED technology called Field Emission Display Technologies, closed its doors because there was only for research of this technology.

Because of financial difficulties the company Sony was not able to acquire all the necessary equipment to start serial production of FED, and it was decided to phase out all activities in this direction. At this time all of the technology, FED, which began back in 2006, paused.

So it seems that this technology will never see in stores (or at least not for now), but there is always the demonstration unit that Sony released in due course and we can deduce that have already left stored in a warehouse, forward to better times.
