Sprint has just rolled out a new member of its intrinsically safe phone. The handset is an intrinsically safe (IS) version of the Sonim XP Strike (sold by the carrier since December last year and known as rugged Direct Connect phone). Customers can purchase this IS ultra-rugged device for $599.99 on a 2-year contract.
The Intrinsically Safe Phone is designed for use in extreme environments that in places with flammable gasses or dust. So, the Sprint Sonim XP Strike IS offers extra protections even in the event of a component failure. Moreover, Sonim XP Strike IS phone brings a special battery that unlike battery on the regular Sonim XP Strike phone.
Specs-wise, the Sonim XP Strike Intrinsically Safe runs Brew 3.1.5 OS paired with Qualcomm QSC6085 processor, 256MB of RAM, and 512MB of ROM. This phone packs a 2-inch QVGA (240 X 320) display.
As mention, the Motorola i365IS phone is Sprint’s last IS device, which was unveiled since in 2008 but it was discontinued in June 2012.
