TeleNav GPS market with the device connected

TeleNav, known for mapping software that sells a mobile phone, entered the market for GPS devices Monday with a shotgun, a $ 299 GPS with real-time traffic and detection of a search function connected to sites of interest.

Real-time traffic detection has been a feature of the suspension device Dash, which operates the network of Dash devices to track traffic and better chart the path to avoid it. Curiously, now Dash said the company plans to be a service provider, essentially taking on the role TeleNav used to play. The Shotgun its updated maps of traffic every five minutes.

PC Magazine review, however, found the lack of something shotgun. “If an excellent concept, Shotgun TeleNav GPS interface connected to his mobile phone does not offer as many services based on what they might think.” The review summary. “While additional features TeleNav in the development of the road map, we recommend that you wait for the next version to see what they added.”

Not surprisingly, many striking features of Shotgun need connectivity. To do this, TeleNav demand for $ 11.99 per month or $ 129 for a year of the plan. Users can also opt for a plan for $ 239, savings of just over $ 48. Given what happened to Dash, buying a year or two years of the plan also becomes a kind of bet that the TeleNav service, in reality, there are two years from now.

Otherwise, the shotgun seems to be something of a standard unit of GPS, with preloaded maps of the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico, the online service also provides updated maps and data as well as enhancing features, TeleNav he said. (Scoreboard of the first free update is an update with GPS and faster router lockon personalized preferences.)

The device appears to have built a business database of 11 million IP addresses, including phone numbers, which means you suspend service leave intact the database but no further updates. TeleNav also adding features to tell you that the price of gas is a gas station, or a link to restaurant reviews online.

The unit measuring 4.9 inches x 3.1 inches x 0.75 inches, and includes a 4.3-inch touch screen. The Shotgun TeleNav is now available.
