Toshiba has announced the upcoming release in Japan, Dynario, an external power supply based on fuel-cell technology for consumer electronics. As fuel methanol is used, the container is designed for 14 ml. Dynario is fairly compact, its dimensions are 150×74.5×21 mm and weight is 280 grams
Together with power supply will be sold fuel cartridges, which you can fill its new portion of fuel. Toshiba Dynario is the first DMFC (Direct Methanol Fuel Cell) product of Toshiba. It will charge small devices such as mobile phones and portable players, when you do not have regular power grid. The connection is made via USB cable. One full container of methanol in Dynario is enough to charge approximately two ordinary mobile phones.
Toshiba Dynario and replaceable cartridges will be shipping in Japan from October 29, but the order is available now. It is a limited edition of 3000 units only. Cost of Dynario will be 29800 yen ($329), and the fuel cartridge is 3150 yen ($35). Apparently, Toshiba has decided to gauge customer reaction and opinion of its products in Japan for development of future DMFC products.
