Toshiba has officially announced availability its newest hard drives, the Toshiba MKxx39GSL series in February 2011. The drive is designed for mobile devices.

According to manufacture, the Toshiba MKxx39GSL series is becomes the first 1.8-inch hard drive with LIF (Low-Insertion Force) SATA (Serial ATA) connectors.

They are includes Toshiba MK1639GSL, Toshiba MK2039GSL and Toshiba MK2239GSL, which has capacity of 160GB, 200GB and 220GB, respectively. The new Toshiba HDD has features 4200rpm (rotation per minute), 15ms average seek time, and 16MB of buffer memory.

Toshiba MKxx39GSL series HDD has also 14 dB noise level when idle and 15dB during seeks. It is a shock resistance of 600G when operating (2ms) and 1,500Gs when shut down (1ms). Dimensions of MKxx39GSL HDD are 54 x 71 x 5 mm and weight not more than 48g.

It is expected that hard disks will be used in tablet PCs, external storage devices, consumer electronics, and so on. Their price is not reported yet.
