Toshiba SSD capacity up to 512GB in Portege R600 notebook

Toshiba Corporation announced the start of deliveries of solid state drives (SSD) for use in netbooks, laptops, and compact desktops. Toshiba SSDs are offered in a flash module with a Serial ATA-2 (3Gbps) interface, as well as in the 1.8-inch and 2.5-inch drive enclosures.
The devices are made on the basis of NAND-flash memory technology for Multi-Level Cell (MLC), providing consistent speed read and write data up to 230MB/s and 180MB/s, respectively. Also its MTTF is 1 million hours, according to specifications.
Toshiba 1.8-inch SSDs are available in versions with capacity 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB. The size of such drives is 78.5×54x5 mm and weight is about 48g. Toshiba 2.5-inch SSDs can hold up to 512 GB of information and their dimensions are 100×70x9.5 mm and weight is a little less than 70g.

The price for Toshiba solid-state drives does not confirmed. However, when ordering through the website of the Portege R600 notebook replacement of conventional hard disk capacity of 160GB for 128GB SSD adds to the cost of $400. The optional installation of solid state drives for 512GB and is to cost an additional $ 1,400.
