VESA approved DisplayPort 1.2 standard
Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) has approved the DisplayPort 1.2 standard as the norm for connecting displays.
The DisplayPort 1.2 specification requires a doubling of bandwidth compared to v1.1 – from 10.8Gbps to 21.6Gbps. The new standard allows for transmission over a single cable multiple, independent audio and video streams in uncompressed form. By the same connector at the same time or sequentially through a hub can be connected to multiple displays.
Another feature of DisplayPort 1.2 is the increased capacity complementary channel for the communication of data interfaces, USB 2.0 and Ethernet. Now, the channel is able to transmit information at speeds up to 720 Mbps, which is 1 Mbps in the DisplayPort 1.1 standard.
The DisplayPort 1.2 specification suggests the possibility of connecting to one cable of two monitors with a resolution of 2560×1600 pixels, or four monitors with a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels.
The new standard is backward compatible with existing versions of the DisplayPort.
