Western Digital today announced its solid state drives (SSD), called WD SiliconEdge Blue. This WD SSD is targeted at the consumer market, which is its first consumer-oriented solid state drive (SSD).

WD SiliconEdge Blue SSD is made in the 2.5-inch form factor and available in capacities of 64GB, 128GB and 256 GB. According to manufacture, WD SiliconEdge Blue SSD is delivers data up to 250MB/s in read and up to 170 MB/s in write. The WD SiliconEdge Blue SSD is offers fast read/write speeds and high SSD capacities, also Serial ATA II interface.

New WD SiliconEdge Blue solid state drives is supports TRIM features in Windows 7 OS, which allow to extend its life span and optimize performance. In addition, WD SiliconEdge Blue supports Native Command Queuing (NCQ), which allows drives to handle multiple requests sent to the processor and determine priorities for their implementation in achieving maximum speed.

Western Digital SiliconEdge Blue SSD is designed for use in desktop computers and laptops. It is claimed MTFB of 1.4 million hours. Size of WD SiliconEdge Blue SSD is 99x70x9.5 mm.

It is available on market at an estimated price of $279, $529 and $999 for WD SiliconEdge Blue SSD 64GB (model SSC-D0064SC-2100), 128 GB (model SSC-D0128SC-2100), and 256 GB (SSC-D0256SC-2100) respectively.
