Western Digital intros five external hard drives with enhanced security

Western Digital released five external hard drives with increased security, they are involved software for automatic backup, password protection and 256-bit hardware encryption. Three new items entered into a series of My Passport portable drives, includes My Passport Essential, My Passport Essential SE and My Passport for Mac, in addition includes two desktop models, includes My Book Essential and My Book for Mac.

They all come with the new SmartWare software, designed for data backup. Also it has 256-bit AES hardware encryption to securely protect user data, access to which is now possible only through a password of WD Drive Lock. This, incidentally, means that there is no possibility to recover a forgotten password is any more.

According to the manufacturer, the new My Passport models are 20% smaller than its predecessors. Exchange of data and power source is carried by USB 2.0 interface. Also its available is a docking station for these three hard drives. My Passport Essential and My Passport Essential SE come formatted in the file system, NTFS, while My Passport for Mac formatted HFS+, the file system for Mac computers.

My Passport Essential drives come in versions with 320GB, 500GB, and 640GB in white, black, blue, silver and red performance, My Passport Essential SE are 750GB and 1TB capacitive, and it is available in black only. Essential for Mac has version of 320GB and 500GB.

My Books Desktop Drives have a significant amount. My Book Essential for PC has NTFS file system and disk space of 500GB, 1TB, 1.5TB and 2TB. My Book for Mac version is 1TB and it is formatted in HFS+. These drives in this series also has USB 2.0 interface and they have a fanless design.

Western Digital has begun shipments of hard drives. My Passport Essential depending on the amount of cost from $99 to $149. My Passport Essential SE is priced at $179 for 750GB and $249 for 1TB. Price Range of My Books for PC is $99 to $249, but for My Book for Mac has price at $139.
