WinFast HPVC1100, world’s first external encoder

Leadtek has developed the world’s first external electronic converter, WinFast HPVC1100, based on the SpursEngine HD video co-processor. This encoder is the development by Toshiba, it created on the basis of a modified Broadband Engine Cell, and originally intended for high definition video in some powerful laptops. By the way, Leadtek has previously announced a similar product, which it is an expansion card to install inside the system unit.
WinFast HPVC1100 External converter has very compact dimensions of 194 x 45 x 90 mm and weighs only 0.7 kg. To connect with the main computer, it uses an interface PCI-Express. SpursEngine encoder uses when dealing embedded memory of 128 MB Rambus XDR. As stated, the Leadtek WinFast HPVC1100 converter able to significantly speed up the encoding/decoding video in the formats H.264/AVC and MPEG-2. The date of release and the value of this interesting device still are not known.
