Kopin announced world’s smallest color LCD display with a VGA resolution. Its diagonal is 0.27 inches, according to Kopin, such performance has been achieved by reducing pixel size to 2.9×8.7 µm. In an earlier decision, the size of pixels was significantly higher 3.75×11.25 µm. According to the company, the new VGA microdisplay is an important step towards its earlier goal, the creation of the display with a resolution of 2048×2048 pixels and smaller than postage stamp. Now, using the same pixel size, the company can create a display with a resolution of SVGA (800×600) at 0.34-inch diagonal, XGA (1024×768) with a diagonal of 0.44 inches, and SXGA (1280×1024) with a diagonal of 0.56 inches.

Of course, the most interesting in this case is the question of the application of such tiny displays. According to Kopin, they are intended for high-quality digital cameras and camcorder that require high-resolution electronic viewfinder. Perhaps Kopin displays will be used in mobile devices.
